PIRATES, ATTACK, VIOLENCE, RAPE, PILLAGE AND PLUNDER ON WALLABY CREEK ALSO SHARKS, CROCODILES, STONEFISH, DEADLY BOXJELLYFISH, TROPICAL STORMS, TOOTHACHE, APPENDICITIS, FALLING OVERBOARD, DRUGS, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, AND SEA SICKNESS.!! IS ALAN AN AXE MURDERER ??? As far as I can judge after all of my travel and troubles; the most violent places on earth are cities of the USA, and the most dangerous activity on earth is to travel by road. Firstly the news is that there are no real pirates left on earth. That is people who come aboard boats and steal, rape, kill evrybody and hijack the boat. It has not happened in a hundred years. There are of course robbers, thieves and government officials everywhere. The only weapon that we carry onboard Wallaby Creek is RUM. That is right RUM. It has worked with great results on a number of occasions. Firearms in a tense or frightening situation can mostly make things more dangerous. I dumped my firearm years ago. We have NEVER had any problems with robbery except of a very minor nature. If the day ever comes that I am faced with armed holdup there is nothing on this boat that I care enough about to risk my life for in a deadly fight. Also there is nothing much here that is of much use to anybody else. Anyway the problem simply does not arise. And I am the one person who has sailed to all the most likely trouble spots on earth. If you are thinking about coming then I suggest you give up the silly baby ideas and come. If you really want to be a coward then spend your life in front of the TV. It is very safe and comfortable ! I choose to LIVE ! LAN IS THE AXE MURDERER ! ! ! Many people think this and are frightened to visit. Anyway IF YOU ARE SUCH A BABY that you are too frightened to get out and LIVE then it is much better that you do not come. You can watch TV and never risk anything and never find the really interesting people in life. Probably die in your car. A simple sturdy craft where moderation is the key. We do not do fast and hard sailing. If you want to learn correct sailing techniques, then do not come here. Because actually sailing the boat is the very simplest and easiest thing we do. Living a happy and interesting life and sailing the boat as slow and easy as practical is our way of life. If you really want to get somewhere then jump a plane. If you really want to inprove your sailing skills then enroll at a school. On Wallaby Creek life is for good living. If the crew is you then who the hell is you Typically 50/50 male female. Mostly university educated and mostly with little sailing experience. Young people around 23 and older in their 50s. Some have done sailing courses but most not. I often get couples and sometimes people return again and again. The oldest person was 67 yeqars old and he did a Tasman crossing from Australia to New Zealand. The youngest waqs Lisa who sailed to Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands at one year old. Everybody seems easy to live with and cause no problem. After the first month they start to get bored but when they stay longer then they settle in and really enjoy it more. It is hard for us all because we are used to being entertained and out here it is all simple and do it yourself. NOT MACHO AT ALL If you cannot sit around all day and wait for the tide then you cannot do this lifestyle. If you cannot read a book for two days while the skipper traces the electrical problem that has killed our batteries then you cannot do this lifestyle. If you cannot miss an occasional night sleep without becoming hard to live with, then you cannot do this lifestyle. There is plenty of easy simple living and only very occasional bouts of hard sailing. Nothing like you see on TV or imagine in your dreams. Definately not macho. In 25 years of sailing I have formed my own ideas of living on the sea. Sailing the boat is a small part of that living. It is now never a battle with the sea. I do not see it that way at all. Other people give boat names that are very macho.. like sea conquerer, valiant fighter, etc.. Wallaby Creek is does not have that attitude. We are never attacked by the sea, we do not engage in battle with the sea. No chest thumping here. I have gained proficiency on the sea by not battling against it, but by embracing it. The sea is not the enemy, it is a magical realm of peace and beauty and harmony entered into in a spirit of peace not war. Acceptance! This boat is not a celebration of my economic condition; but of my soul ... WHAT WILL YOU LEARN ?? Not what you think. OK . You may learn a little seamanship if you watch and are aware. If you are really astute you may pick up ideas of how life should be really lived. You may learn patience. Or how to knead bread ! The sail setting is nothing, OK ! Anchoring is an art. As is living and almost nobody knows how to do itto the best. WHAT IF 1.!!! WHAT IF THE CAPTAIN IS AN ABSOLUTE BASTARD ?? Well it would be a real problem for the crew, and the wife too. But luckly he is not. He is an Aussie and is actually the most relaxed human being on earth. We hear all the stories from other skippers who tell us how impossible it is to find good people to sail with. And we hear all the stories from crew about the hell ships that they have experienced. Wallaby Creek is different. She is better and it can be put directly to the confidence and competence of Alan the skipper. He has never been known to panic. When the shit is really hitting the fan he goes cool and quiet and issues instructions without yelling. Other times he may be known to yell and yahoo and carry on like a pork chop. Crew that sail with him generally like him. Everybody that stays on the boat for an extended period go through various stages. The first week is slow. Then time speeds up. After about six weeks comes a period of disenchantment, where the skipper is strongly blamed for all of life's little problems. By the third month we all love each other like family. Once a difficult crew girl had to be asked to leave. And a few times crew who were not enjoying the experience have left early. Some people think Alan is next to God and others think he is a bloody nut case. Be assured that for the average inexperienced person wanting to experience life at sea this boat is your best chance to have a really enjoyable and entertaining and relaxed experience of life on the sea. WHAT IF 2 ??? WHAT IF I REALLY HATE IT You may simply have to get off at the next available stop. Don't worry you will not be the first. Sorry no refund. WHAT IF 3 ??? WHAT IF WE SINK OR BECOME LOST OR SHIPWRECKED Well the absolute worst case is that you die. Sink to a watery grave in Davy Jones Locker ! We will all go down together. OH WELL !! WHAT IF 4 .?? I CANNOT SWIM WHAT IF 5.?? I AM VERY SHY AND MODEST WHAT IF 6.?? I CANNOT COOK WHAT IF 7.?? I GET SEASICK WHAT IF 8.?? I KNOW NOT HOW TO SAIL OR ANYTHING ABOUT BOATS
