WALLABY CREEK is a sailing boat. She is an ocean going blue water yacht capable of staying at sea for months and cruising all the oceans of the world.
Strongly built of steel she is designed to withstand the pressure of being trapped in Antarctic ice. She has sailed thru many gales and storms.
In 1995 between Bali and Australia she safely passes thru the eye of a cyclone without damage. She is the 4x4 of the oceans !
WALLABY CREEK is 13 metres (44 feet ) with a single mast and a cutter rig. She has a four cylinder 30 H.P. Isuzu diesel engine
She sleeps six with a double bed in the aft stateroom, twin beds in the forecabin and two settee berths in the saloon
She does not have a luxury fitout. She is built for comfort and self reliance. She spends almost no time in marinas. There is an minimum of electronics onboard. Power comes from solar and wind generators.
She is a real long range sailing boat capable of cruising isolated regions for months at a time without outside support.
She is an Australian registered ship ON 854 760 more information WALLABY CREEK
THE SKIPPER Alan Phillips is 57 years old with 24 years cruising experience. He has circumnavigated the world, circumnavigated Australia, been up to China, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, all over the Pacific, the Atlantic and The Indian Ocean, The Red Sea , Fiji, New Zealand, the roaring forties etc. etc.
He is one of the most experienced cruising yachtsmen on earth. Still always willing to spend time teaching and helping the crew. Especially to understand the lifestyle and where the pleasures in sailing really are. He is easy-going, relaxed, friendly, competent, never been known to panic - possibly a typical Aussie and generally considered to be a good bloke.
There is only one success
There is only one success;
to be able to spend your life in your own way
The crew is you . No passengers.
People have stayed for up to six month
You need to be friendly, relaxed, any age, any sex, normal fitness and health..
You do not need any previous sailing experience.
No vegeratarians
You are invited for a couple of reasons;
to keep us company,
to increase the pleasure and enjoyment that we already have,
to help with the sailing, watchkeeping and boat handling,
and to help our finances.
Musicians and good cooks are great crew.
Most people really enjoy the experience sailing with us.
;
WHAT DO WE DO ? not much !
Well, we sail the boat, we swim, snorkel, eat, sleep,
listen to music (bring some CD's and tapes), read, play games.
We catch our own fish and bake our own bread.
Barbeques on deserted beaches.
When the sun reaches the yardarm it is time for rum cocktails.
We go up uninhabited rivers, visit native cultures, exotic cities,
and visit with other yachts from all over the world.
IT IS AN EASY LIFE - ANYBODY CAN DO IT.
We take turns keeping watch - day and night when we are on a passage.
We take turns with the cooking
Good friendships are formed.
We spend time dolphin watching and crocodile chasing. WHALE HO !!!!!
I enjoy spearfishing often with sharks trying to get my fish out of my hands
Mostly it is sailing, swimming, exploring ashore.
Often gets boring. This is not a tourist trip.
There are lots of delays, waiting for weather, fixing the boat etc...
You may be sleeping on the sofa . This is a real cruising boat. This is not one of those fancy sparkling boats which you see in the marinas that only get used a few times a year.
If you really love those gleaming shiny yachts with the fancy stripes and all of the electronic stuff.......then that is just the opposite to Wallaby Creek.
We are actually the boat with the rust streaks and the patched and repaired and patched again sails.
This is the boat that does thousands of miles every year with no publicity into unknown places where tourists can never get and where the locals have never heard of chardonnay.
Also you must remember that I am just going where I want to go and doing what I want to do, you, the crew are just tagging along. But it is at least a hundred times more interesting than anything anybody else is doing.
Although our really slow pace of life does take some time to get used to. READ MY BOOK!
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed
by the things that you did not do then by the things that you did do.
So throw off the bowlines
Sail away from safe harbor
Catch the trade winds in your sails
Explore. Dream. Discover.
THE COST IS: NOT A LOT
Now it is back to US$ 40 per person per day
Full total includes everything except drinks.
Please bring cash.(any international currency ).
Now because of people not showing up and mucking me around I must ask for a small deposit before I can confirm your place on the crewlist. Please go to www.PayPal.com and send US$50 to wallabycreek@yahoo.com
This is a great life and it is probably cheaper then most people live in the cities.
It is very cheap when you consider that it includes all your food and accommodation, trips, snorkeling, travel, visits to exotic locations, friendships and entertainment.
It is a fair share of all the food, fuel, sails, charts, government fees, haul-outs, maintenance, harbor fees etc etc . The costs involved with running an ocean going yacht are very high and you are being asked to just help share these costs.
WHAT TO BRING ?
Well, I live in a T-shirt and shorts or a sarong.
I take them for a swim when they get dirty or throw them away.
There are spare sets of snorkeling gear on the boat and raincoats and sleeping bags,
But it is better if you bring your own.
A hat and sun protection are necessary.
A warm jacket or tracksuit for the cool and windy nights.
I rarely use shoes but you may have tender feet.
There is plenty of room for whatever you want to bring.
A bottle of something hard to drink is sometimes good.

BOAT PHOTOS
ORIOMO is a published story of an exciting trip up a river that had never before been attempted
SKELETONS is a story that I am still working on. There is an interesting photo of me with a jungle knife in one hand and a human skull in the other coming out of a jungle cave.
NUKUORO is a story of a lost Polynesian tribe that I found on Xmas eve 1993
TROUBLES are some notes I have made about really hard sailing that I have done. It will never happen again it is just to frighten the new crews.
AMANDA is a lovely 20 year old student from Portland USA. She did a hard ocean passage from New Zealand to Tonga. This are her memories.
NATHALIE is a 28 year old Swiss girl who also kept notes as she and I battled waves 10 metres ( 30 feet) high for 17 days in the Roaring Forties of the Great Southern Ocean
A year and a half after this passage Nathalie and I married and had a baby
Eventually we ended up in a bitter divorce. WOW you never know what is going to happen next do you?
What about pirates, tropical storms, rape, robbery, sharks, crocodiles, stone fish, giant squid, guns, falling overboard, toothache, sinking, dying at sea,
drowning etc etc ..

Nothing seems to really matter,
that's the charm of it. Whether you
get away, or whether you don't;
whether you arrive at your destination
or whether you reach somewhere else,
or you never get anywhere at all
you're always busy, and you never
do anything in particular,and when
you have done it there's always
something else to do.....if you like,
but, you'd much better not. the wind in the willows
